A crown, also known as a cap, covers a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size, thereby strengthening and improving its overall appearance.
A crown may be recommended to cover and support a tooth with a large filling. A crown can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking, or restore one that is already broken.
There are three main types of dental crowns. Each designed for different applications. Metal gold crowns are particularly suitable for posterior teeth exposed to heavy chewing forces.
Porcelain or ceramic crowns, offer excellent aesthetic results and closely match the appearance of natural teeth. They blend seamlessly in with your smile.
Finally, Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns combine the strength of metal with the cosmetic appeal of porcelain. This type of crown is often recommended for load-bearing teeth that are visible when you smile.

My brother Steve and I have been seeing Dr. Burbick and staff for over 40 years. Dr. Joe over the years got me over my fear I have had for years. We will not trust any other dental practice to work , clean and help maintain a healthy mouth of teeth besides the team at Exquisite Smiles. Since Dr. Joe retired Dr. Candace was a great addition to the practice and we enjoyed her explanations of future treatments and referrals for root canal treatments. Dr. Candace got homesick and moved back home. We were lucky to get Dr. Levrant who is a native Oak Parker so she will be with us for awhile. Which is a good thing she follows suit very thorough, perfectionist, professional, caring and funny which I enjoy as a patient. The entire staff at exquisite are professional caring and do what they can to assist their patients needs. Flexible scheduling for urgent appointments I recently had an older crown pop out and they were able to work things out to take me same day. Again if you are lucky enough to find and try out this dental practice you have found the best dental practice in the Chicagoland area.
I’ve been going to exquisite smiles for years. The staff is always really friendly and helpful and all the scheduling/billing/communication side of the business is fantastic. The dentists and assistants are all careful, thoughtful, and great at what they do. A new dentist—Dr. Candace Kountz—recently joined the group. This past week she put a crown on one of my molars and I have to say it was honestly one of the most positive dental experiences I’ve ever had. Dr. Kountz was incredibly patient with all my questions, worked carefully while telling me every step of the way what she was doing, and I’m really happy with the results. The dentist assistant Mariella was also just so kind and professional. I really don’t like going to the dentist in general, but I would absolutely submit to their care again. Thanks for a positive experience!
I was in a fragile emotional state when I first came to Exquisite Smiles earlier this year, because I had to stop seeing my previous dentist due to him no longer being in network with my insurance. I have not only bad teeth (multiple cavities, root canals, extractions - when it comes to my mouth, you name it, I probably got it), but also severe anxiety when I'm in a dentist's office, and it's always an ordeal for me to start working with someone new. Well, I couldn't have made a better choice! Dr. Valerie Levrant is PHENOMENAL - not only she is a great, very thorough dentist, but also has a very friendly and warm personality, and a great sense of humor. Her assistant, Mariella, is so friendly and outgoing that I felt like I was chatting with a friend, not a dental assistant. Between the two of them they made me so comfortable that I was actually looking forward to my visits - which, coming from me, is the highest compliment! DEFINITELY recommended!
